Let's Make a Lively Class>>>>>>> SiNG oUT LoUD:)

This is another interesting activity we did during our tutorial. Before this we had gone through series of movies which were much related to our forthcoming career as a teacher. This time around,  Dr. Jaya enlightens us by introducing several songs which can be incorporated in our lesson. I feel excited to listen to various songs and go through their lyrics. Themes such as nature, love, hope, and humanity  are apparently relevant to be the material for our lesson in class.

On the next meeting, we were assigned to choose a song and explicate the underlying message conveyed by the writer. My group had selected a song entitled 'What I've Done' sung by American popular rock band Linkin' Park.

Besides the catchy and rejuvenating melody, what impressed us most is its clip video which clearly portray the destruction of nature made by men. The greed for money and position had caused misery including war, famine, pollution, natural disaster and so forth. Thus; the title of this song 'What I've Done' was actually a rhetorical question to confess Men's regret over what he had done all this while. There was also a part of the lyric indicating  the man's hope to start anew and seeking mercy from God.

               ''So let mercy come
                     And wash away
                         What I've done''

In short, I would say that this activity is a very good exposure for us as teachers-to-be. Song is an interesting tool to be infused in teaching and learning process. Students will be captured by various genre of ebb and flow instead of reading lengthy passage. For visual learners, the use of video clip will definitely make the lesson more effective and joyful. On teacher's part, they can elicit a lot of different responses from students thus encouraging two ways of communication. Since I am truly fond of music, surely this method would be among my utmost consideration for my students later:)
